It has to be said that most people that know me will also know that music is a very important part of my life. Without music, I would lead a dull boring existence and would just trudge along as if nothing mattered! My music varies with my mood, but I have a few favourite sounds right now and these are them. As this site develops, more will be added and they are in no particular order of preference...

Nightwish
It has to be said, that many of the CD's in my collection originate from bands from that place known as the land of 1000 lakes - Finland. Actually, they have more than that, but who's counting. I found out about Nightwish through good old Terrorizer magazine. A 4 page spread about the band gave me a good enough reason to log onto Napster and find out what Finland had produced this time. High pitched wailing women and fret wank in drop #D is a superb combination and can produce powerful music. Nightwish have managed to do that quite convincingly. Needless to say, they haven't been off of my playlist since I got hold of their music. If you like crunching riffs, psychotic keyboards and operatic voices, go buy it. If you don't, go buy it anyway, its fucking awesome!

Seraphim Shock
Ok, finding this band was a complete accident. Actually, to be honest, I didn't find them at all, someone else did and told me about them and since then, Napster has again come into the fray and provided endless hours of music from a band out of Denver, U.S. They may look odd and quite possibly, that's exactly what they are, but their music is outstanding. I have to admit, when I heard a couple of their tracks I thought Carl McCoy was singing (From Fields of the Nephilim and The Nefilim). Go listen, it's well worth it and their sites not bad too!

Incubus
Un-fucking-believable! That just about sums Incubus up! I'm not sure how to describe them, but from time to time, I go to rock clubs, most notably the Crazy House in Liverpool once a month. I'm usually a fairly reserved person on the dance floor (Complete bollocks!), but some of the songs of Incubus have a nasty habit of sending my into a hairball frenzy. This is usually when I loose it and don't care how stupid I look. For those that frequent the Crazy House, I can normally be found doing odd things in a kilt. Easily spotted - I'm the only person IN a kilt in the entire building!

Lost Prophets
Can't remember how I came across these....oh, yes I can, Electric Ballroom, Camden, the metal room, upstairs! Darren the DJ kept playing it and people kept asking what it was. As with all clubs, if you play something enough, people start to recognise it and it eventually grows on them. This was the case with LP, though, it really didn't take all that long from them to sport a place on my CD shelf! And all because of one song. Shinobi V's Dragon (Which is an utterly stupid name for a song) got regular airplay through my ears on a daily basis! That song alone made me buy their album! Damn fine stuff!!!!

Saliva
A friend of mine, moopet, said "Come and have a look at this!" To be honest, the first time I saw and heard them, I wasn't that impressed. I just took them for another cliché band with an image problem! In fact, they are a bit. The lead singer (Bless his little cotton socks) Looks like a complete misfit! He comes across as someone that should be in Deicide, not Saliva! The music is nothing new, but it's catchy and grows on you at a rate I am not comfortable with and is so irritatingly good, you can't help but stick it in your CD player and press the repeat button! The only thing that managed to get it off my stereo is Ill Nino and thats what's next....

Ill Nino
Fuck a duck sideways and baste it for an hour! When I first heard this album I almost shit my pants! The only other band to make me even contemplate doing that is Sepultura when I saw then live for the last time Max was with them and they played Propaganda! I thought my body was going to spit my colon out through my arsehole! This band does something in a similar vein, but for 45 minutes! Only the last song on the album seems like it shouldn't be there, but after an hour of relentless ear hammering, it's actually welcome and brings you down from being 2 feet above the ground! If you don't like metal - you don't know WHAT you're missing. If on the other hand you do - go buy it! NOW!

Lacuna Coil
Oh my. Seem to have a thing about bands that front female singers at the moment (With the HUGE exception of the band above...). Nothing to do with what they look like, I just feel that metal riffs and female vocals sit well together. Of course, this is not always the case. A band called 'My Ruin' spring to mind. Some of their songs are ok, but for the most part, I really don't like it that much. Female singer? Yes. Metal riffs? Yes. Any good? Doesn't really do it for me I'm afraid! This on the other hand, makes your toes tap, isn't too depressing and is listenable whatever mood I'm in. I admit that most of the time, it's a miserable one, but if I need something to occupy my mind, I just shove this on!

Soil
I'd heard 'Halo' in a pub and thought "That's a good song, who the fuck is it?" The 'who the fuck is it' statement went on for a long, long time, till I saw it on the box. Bought the album and though "Hey, this is pretty good. Now I can't get the fucker off the stereo! :)

Godsmack
Never cared much for them in the past and to be quite honest, never really knew much about them. Had heard the name, but not the music. Sitting watching the Kerrang channel one day and I stand Alone comes on. Missed the opening couple of seconds and missed the artist information. Had no idea it was Godsmack. Came on again, found out who did it, went and downloaded everything they had ever done. Wenk and bought Awake straight after. The album kind of grows on you. The song that got me into them of course, is not on the album, but it makes no odds. A collection of catchy riffs that for the most part, don't intrude on what you are doing. A couple of the songs do actually make you stop what you are doing and listen to the music, but it's a nice mix.

Therion
One word! Fucking A! Opera, metal, dodgy stage setups and a woman with a voice that just gives you goose bumps! I bought one of their albums once just because I liked the cover. Took it home, played it and them promptly went out and bought the rest. There is one song of theirs with I find myself listing to frequently. The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah is quite literally the dogs bollocks! And they'll probably sue me for this, but I feel I have to share this with everyone. Spread the word. Tell your parents! Therion kick ass!

Slipknot
Unique! Obviously, there is an abundance of masks and boilersuits kicking around in Iowa, but then middle America always was a bit on the strange side! Their first album was a run away success and everyone thought that they'd be a one album wonder and not be able to top it. I have to admit, I was one of these people. Then Iowa came out and I thouhgt, well, maybe not. 9 men in masks....very clever marketing that! Just as well that their music is good!

Green Carnation
With an album containing just one song at 60 minutes, it had to be worth a listen! Tied in with a band called In the Woods, who I also like (But not listed here... shall have to change that...), it was enevitable I would like them. Strange things come out of Norway. Norwegians for example. However, they do produce some outstanding music and this is a good example! If you've ever been to Norway in the winter - you can understand why. It's dark, cold, snowy and baron, but they manage to make outstanding music. Doesn't make sense, but hey, I'm not complaining! More eggnog anyone?

Deftones
Always liked the Deftones. Something about the way the singer always sounds like he's having his innards ripped out when he sings! I'd left them alone for a bit while they went through their "White Pony" phase and then their album 'Deftones' was released and it blew my socks off! The song 'Minerva' seems to get all the air play - but some of the other tracks on there are much better! After playing that on high volume over the last couple of days, I'm feeling a bit deaf myself!

Chevelle
I found these out purely by accident! Ocassionally, I buy the odd film soundtrack. Even though I thought the film 'Daredevil' was completely pants ans seemed like a good waste of 90 minutes, the music was very good indeed. These were on it and after hearing the one song, promptly downloaded the rest. Their CD's are speeding their way to me from Amazon as we speak...

Fields of the Nephilim
Been around for a while now have the boys with the flour in their hats! Step forwards, step backwards, wave hands in the air and do the chicken dance! The new album, 'Fallen' still has the old Nephilim style, but seems to have come on from 'The Nephilim', Carl's project after the Fields split, which of course went on tobe 'Rubicon'. Personally, I like it!

Apoptygma Bezerk
Eh? What are they doing here? This might be a result of my 'New Order' days and the realms of electronic music. Apoptygma are suprisingly good actually. Can't even remember how I found out about them, but seem to have now acquirred their entire back catalogue!!! Of the joy's of Kazaa!

E-Town Concrete
I actually thought these guys were black, evidentally not! It's fair to say that the vocal skill of the singer (If you can call it that) is less than tuned, but nevertheless, the voice fits the music! It all sounds a bit angry really, which is just what you need if you're a bit stressed and in a bad mood. Stick on some E-Town and let all your troubles wash away on a wave of noise!
