Alton Towers ('98)
Getting up at 5am in the morning is not something I have really been good at. Still, this was necessary to make the 3 hour drive up the M1 and get there for opening. Monday's at Alton Towers are meant to be reasonably quiet, the whole reason we went on a weekday. Not today! Britain's Biggest Theme park was absolutely stuffed! It must have been 'National Truancy Day', or something, as I have never seen so many kids in one place! Closely followed by the biggest influx of tourists I have ever seen in my life. I felt like an alien in my own country! As a consequence, queuing for all the attractions proved to be a real pain in the arse!
Still, we were not perturbed and hit the big one first. The Oblivion, the worlds first vertical drop roller coaster (Apparently). Getting this out of the way early seemed like a good idea, as the queue grew ominously long from an early stage. However, a set back soon popped up. So impressed were we at the ride, we queued again straight after! 2 hours later, we moved on.
The 'Ripsaw' proved to be most amusing. Got threw about all over the place and then soaked in the process. The result, is the three 'wet' amigos above, looking like drowned rats.
The Haunted House provided the stunning picture above. This is what happens when you try and look scared! It doesn't really work very well, especially if one of you looks near suicidal! The thing that is supposed to provoke this reaction is nothing more than a stuffed dinosaur that pops out at the last turn of the ride and growls at you. Trouble is, if you know iit's coming, you won't jump. I think the scene above scared the stuffed puppet, more than it scared us.
