Another of those wonderful incursions on behalf of work. In the North of Holland, sits a little naval town called Den Helder. If you are ever unlucky enough to have to go there, take plenty to do, it is an extremely uneventful place. It's cold, wet and that's just the summer!
I had to visit this place 3 times and not once did I find anything interesting to do in the evenings when I was there. MacDonald's has only so much appeal, before you want to petrol bomb the place and I really couldn't hack '101 Dalmatians' in Dutch, showing at the only cinema in the town. I did have to spend 4 days in a place called Tolbert, 100 Kms from Den Helder. Any better? No, I think not.
Not all doom and gloom though. You do have to pass through Amsterdam to get to and from Den Helder. Gives 'window' shopping a whole new meaning!! One word of advice though : If you are going to 'look' around the dodgy part of Amsterdam (I thought all of it was), try not to do it whilst carrying a red tool box and a 2 grand laptop PC. It does make things rather awkward!

Observations - Nederlands
Den Helder is, er, um, ah, er, quaint
Amsterdam has the best 'window' displays in the world.
Their train system actually runs on time and are a nice orange colour.
No annoying hills, which makes walking around much more pleasant.
The 'window' displays get another mention.
Dutch people are nice to tourists, unlike London. P
ublic toilets in Holland aren't flooded, unlike London!
London's 'window' displays don't move, unlike Amsterdam!
